Lily is a fun loving 5 year old that loves pandas, books and wants to be a veterinarian some day. She was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental delay and expressive/receptive disorder a week before her 3rd birthday.
She has benefited from speech and occupational therapy but even with those supports, she struggles to always have words. She suffers from severe anxiety that can cause meltdowns or she may try to elope. Animals are wonderful for calming and can help give security. I believe a service dog from 4 Paws would help give Lily independence in a lot of daily task. She has also suffered from night terrors since she was little making it hard to have a good sleep schedule which can make anxiety and meltdowns worse. She loves animals so much she wants to pet them all. She loves going to my friend’s house, which is a farm, and playing with all the animals. She is so interactive with them that I can see a dog trained for her needs helping her so much.
Lily will be receiving a service dog trained to assist her through task trained skills related to calming and redirecting. To address the safety concerns, her service dog will be trained to prevent wandering off by tethering as part of a three unit team where the parent is a handler. In addition, her service dog will be trained to follow her scent if she gets lost and lead a parent to find her.
