Zoe was born with a very rare movement disorder in 2010. She has endured many physical and emotional challenges as a result including ataxia, balance, vision, and swallowing impairments, tremors, speech apraxia, nonverbal autism spectrum disorder, and behaviors. Up until 2018, she had the companionship of our yellow Lab, Riley. He brought her comfort and was aware when something was “off”. He has since passed and Zoe has not been the same. As a family, we always felt a dog would provide Zoe comfort and companionship though as she grew, we realized her needs were becoming greater. We were recently accepted into the 4 Paws Family and were amazed at what a fully trained service animal could provide; Zoe’s dog will be trained to assist with mobility, reduce self-injurious behavior, assist with sensory meltdowns, and track her when/if she wanders off. This service dog will not only provide Zoe with safety; it will become her best friend. We are sure that it will open many doors for her and our family as the dog will be able to assist Zoe in accessing the community, traveling, socializing, and experiencing life to the fullest. We are sharing this fundraiser for friends and family to ask that instead of Christmas and Birthday presents, you consider donating to 4 Paws in Zoe’s name. I promise to provide regular updates to keep you all up to speed in this exciting process! If you are interested in learning more, watch the episode of DOGS (The Kid with a dog) on Netflix, a documentary about the 4 Paws process. We are very excited to share this with you and are so grateful to the 4 Paws Community for giving us this amazing opportunity! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!!
