4 Paws for Ability service dogs are specially trained to provide life-changing care for children with autism. Each dog is carefully prepared to meet the complex and unique needs of their partner, bringing comfort, safety, and independence into their lives.
4 Paws service dogs are trained in behavior disruption techniques and can recognize emotional and behavioral changes in children with autism. They respond through deep pressure therapy, redirection, and other techniques designed to provide comfort and security, helping prevent meltdowns before they escalate.
When Hardie came into Simon’s life, no one could have imagined just how transformative his presence would be. Hardie is a bridge between a world that once felt unreachable and the life Simon now embraces.

“Hardie has changed Simon’s life in every way possible,” says Julie, Simon’s mom. “From non-verbal to speaking, from feeding tube to eating by mouth, and elopements to independence.”
Hardie is trained to support Simon’s unique needs. But his impact goes far beyond task work. He brings comfort in chaos, laughter in the quiet, and a sense of safety in an unpredictable world.
Now, when the world feels overwhelming, Simon knows exactly what he needs. Julie shares, “Simon is so attached to Hardie. They’re the best team around.” Whether walking through daily life side by side or dressing up in matching Halloween costumes, their connection shines in everything they do.
For Simon, Hardie is courage itself. “He’s the calm to Simon’s storm and the silly to the serious.”
These dogs can also be trained to use their exceptional sense of smell to locate a child who has wandered away or eloped. By following a scent trail, they can lead parents directly to their child, helping ensure a swift and safe recovery.
Like Hardie, service dog Massimo has brought extraordinary change into the lives of Kam and Kris. For them, Massimo is a protector, a best friend, and a lifesaver.
As their autism assistance service dog, Massimo not only keeps them safe but also gives them the freedom to explore the world with confidence.
“Massimo watches out for Kam and Kris. He helps keep them safe, especially in public spaces. He alerts when he sees them doing something he thinks is unsafe,” says their mom, Melanie.

Before Massimo, outings were overwhelming and often stressful. Kam and Kris were prone to elopement, but everything changed once they realized Massimo could find them.
“They have not eloped since.”
Massimo has become a guardian for the whole family. “He alerts to anything he thinks we need to check on. He still loves to train, and he loves to go places with us,” Melanie explains. Whether guiding his boys through a crowded amusement park or enjoying a quiet day at home, Massimo is always there.Every child’s journey with autism is unique, but one thing remains the same: a 4 Paws for Ability service dog can be the difference between isolation and connection.
