World Down Syndrome Day: “Lots of Socks”

Since its introduction by the United Nations in 2012, March 21st has been celebrated worldwide as World Down Syndrome Day annually. According to the official website for World Down Syndrome Day, “The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.”

World Down Syndrome Day has become signified by the “Lots of Socks” campaign, a great way to show off your paws! To participate simply wear mismatched socks of any color, design, or pairing, and show off until you get noticed. When someone sees your mismatched, color un-coordinated, crazy socks, start a conversation about Down syndrome awareness.

Even better, tell them about the great things 4 Paws service dogs do for those with Down syndrome and others with disabilities. Get involved by sharing photos of your mismatched socks on social media and tag us @4PawsForAbility!

4 Paws for Ability is a nonprofit that is proud to enrich the lives of children and veterans with disabilities by placing life-changing service dogs.
