“It’s been an amazing thing to see.” | Colin & Axel’s Story

“Having Axel has changed my son’s life in ways we could have never imagined. We often thought it would be a support and alert us to things we couldn’t see. He has really became the family’s emotional support dog.

He can recognize when all of us are having a rough day and acts accordingly to our own individual needs. It’s been an amazing thing to see. Colin is his priority, but in some crazy way, Axel also handles the entire house with such ease. He knows when the little kids are overly hyper and prompts them to play fetch outside. This allows me a breathing moment, and at the same time, allows Colin to exercise his responsibility in training others how to interact while keeping himself calm.  That may sound like a small task, but Axel handles so much with a calm, giant, gentle spirit. He wasn’t even taught these things, yet he has adapted and learned.

These are not simple tasks that Axel performs every day, yet he is so excited and happy to do all of them.  We rarely see him tire out very often because he was trained to love what he does. What 4 Paws has done by providing Axel is amazing to see. He loves being a dog and he loves being our service dog. But more than all of that, we love him so very much.”
