As we continue to highlight the life-saving skills that 4 Paws service dogs possess, we’re excited to showcase our hearing ear dogs!
For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, the world can feel uncertain, full of important sounds they cannot access. That’s where 4 Paws for Ability Hearing Ear Dogs step in. These highly trained service dogs provide more than awareness; they provide safety, independence, and peace of mind.
Trained to recognize critical sounds, like emergency sirens, alarms, or smoke detectors, as well as everyday cues like a doorbell, ringing phone, or someone calling a name, Hearing Ear Dogs become their partner’s second set of ears.
For Cat, that partner is Desiree.
“Watching Desiree’s ears move and her body language allows me to access environmental cues. Having Desiree at my side gives me added confidence and independence.”
For Caroline, her service dog journey began after she lost her hearing before she turned five, overnight and without warning. Now, with her papillon Nellie by her side, she feels a new sense of safety.
“Nellie’s big, beautiful papillon ears will help detect when someone is calling my name or my phone is ringing. She’s trained to alert me to smoke alarms and any dangers that may happen overnight.”
To Cat and Caroline, Desiree and Nellie are more than just service dogs… they are a lifeline.
